The Wine Advocate
September 2001
There are 1200 cases of the Rosso and 250 cases of the Pecchia.
The 1999 Rosso is a blend of 90% Sangiovese
and 10 % Cabernet Sauvignon, aged 18 months in French oak prior
to being bottled unfiltered. Its dense ruby/purple color is followed
by smoky, ripe scents of black currants, cherries, and vanillin.
Layered, with a plush mid-section, an enticing texture, and a firm,
elegant, pure finish, this stylized wine can be drunk now or cellared
for decade. The sensational, opaque ruby/purple-colored 1999 Pecchia
(100 % Sangiovese) displays how unusually ripe and concentrated
the 1999 vintage was in Tuscany. It boasts an opaque purple color
as well as a glorious bouquet of black fruits, lead pencil, vanillin,
smoke, and flowers. Dense and full-bodied, with abundant structure,
outstanding purity, harmony, and overall depth, this is a powerful
(14,5 %alcohol) effort with extraordinary finesse. Anticipated maturity:
2003-2020.
