Gagliole 2002 Rosso, Italy

You probably haven't heard much about Gagliole, but you will. Owner Thomas Bär has invested heavily in refurbishing this Tuscan estate near the towers of San Gimignano and the payoff is this arrestingly sleek Super Tuscan. Unlike many other Super Tuscans, the Gagliole is heavier on the native Sangiovese grape and lighter on the international variety, cabernet sauvignon. With more red fruit character than black, smooth tannins and layers of complex fruit flavor, it's a winner in every sense and one very showy new kid on the block.
