Swiss banker Thomas Bär continues to make better reds every year
at his tiny estate near the Chianti Classico town of Castellina.
His first vintage on the estate was in 1993, and this Sangiovese
and Cabernet Sauvignon blend is one of his best wines. It's a fabulous,
rich and exotic red, with black licorice, currant and hints of mahogany.
Full-bodied, with fine tannins, luscious, ripe fruit and lively
character. Best after 2005. J.S.
