2021 Pecchia Chianti Classico Gran Selezione: 95 points
“The Gagliole 2021 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Panzano Pecchia is the estate’s top-end wine. I fondly remember the late proprietor Thomas Bär telling me about his “love at first sight” for this idyllic corner of Tuscany. This organic wine comes from a 1.5-hectare site distinguished by compact pietraforte sandstone and calcareous soils at a cool 510 meters above sea level. These conditions lead to the elegance and dark fruit flavors you get in this bottle. Lavender, dark cherry and a hint of licorice emerge from the bouquet. This is a medium-bodied but well-concentrated effort, and only 2,000 bottles were created.”

2020 Valletta IGT: 94 points
“An organic blend of equal parts Sangiovese and Merlot, the Gagliole 2021 Valletta is quite lovely, with a powdery note of crushed limestone that I find especially attractive. This adds elegance and vertical lift. Beyond that dusty mineral note are generous layers of dark fruit and summer-ripe cherry. This medium-weight wine shows a lasting finish with just the right level of acidity to keep things lively. This is a great buy, with 6,000 bottles produced.”
